Range Rules

RIFLE RANGE RULES

  1. The gate to the rifle range is always to remain in the Automatic Operation position and NEVER to be locked open! Only in the case of HSC Board-approved club events is the gate to be locked open.
  2. Ranges are for Highland Sportsman Club members and their guests only. Each member is limited to 5 guests and must always accompany them. Children under 16 should be strictly supervised.
  3. Firearms are always to be UNLOADED with ACTIONS OPEN except when in use at the firing line or are cased.
  4. Hearing and eye protection are strongly recommended.
  5. No horseplay allowed.
  6. No alcoholic beverages are permitted.
  7. All fire must always be directed into the backstop beyond target frames. Cross firing onranges is prohibited; shoot within target lanes directly in front of bench position. High-angle handgun and rifle fire are prohibited; use caution with rapid-fire recoil.
  8. Rifles, handguns, black powder firearms, and shotguns (slug only) are permitted for use atrifle range except at the shotgun-only stands.
  9. Shotgun-only stands are for use with all shotshells except those containing single projectiles. Rifle and handgun use are prohibited.
  10. Paper targets only! Mount targets to the provided mounting boards or orange netting and always directly in front of the backstop. Do NOT mount targets on a post, wood cross framing, or signs.
  11. No person shall move forward of the firing line until the range is declared “COLD or SAFE” and status is acknowledged by all shooters.
  12. No person shall commence firing until the range is declared “HOT or READY TO FIRE” and status is acknowledged by all shooters.
  13. Cease firing when a train or railroad maintenance vehicle approaches. Commence firing after they have safely passed.
  14. Keep the range clean by disposing of all trash. This includes spent casings and the removal of targets from target frames.
  15. The range is closed during regularly scheduled monthly meetings, work parties, and HSC Board-approved events.
  16. During CMP events, the CMP range officer is in charge of the entire range.
  17. Any bench rests that have been moved must be retied to a post or concrete block toprevent loss during a flood.
  18. Resolve any unsafe practices or conditions and report the issue to the HSC Board of Directors.

SKEET AND TRAP RANGE RULES

  1. The gate to the rifle range is always to remain in the Automatic Operation position and NEVER to be locked open! Only in the case of HSC Board-approved club events is the gate to be locked open.
  2. Ranges are for Highland Sportsman Club members and their guests only. Each member is limited to 5 guests and must always accompany them. Children under 16 should be strictly supervised.
  3. Shotguns are to be always UNLOADED with the ACTION OPEN except when on a shooting station and ready to fire. Unattended firearms are to be unloaded and safely racked on a shotgun stand or in a case.
  4. All shooters must sign in prior to shooting.
  5. Hearing and eye protection are strongly recommended.
  6. No horseplay allowed.
  7. No alcoholic beverages are permitted.
  8. Only members that have completed the required training are authorized to open and close traps. To receive the lock codes for the skeet and trap house, you must receive instruction and orientation of machine operation from a qualified club representative – either the Skeet Committee Chairmen, Co-Chairman, or those members whom they designate.
  9. This shooting area is designated for shotguns using target shotshells loaded with shot no larger than No. 7 1/2. Aerial shooting with buckshot, slugs, or other types of firearms is strictly prohibited on this range.
  10. Cease firing when a train or railroad maintenance vehicle approaches. Commence firing after they have safely passed.
  11. After using the skeet, trap and/or sporting clays area, check to be sure that all equipment is returned to its designated storage location and that all traps are properly disarmed, powered down, refilled, and locked up according to procedure.
  12. Payment for targets is based on the honor system. Current pricing will be posted in the field house near the sign-in sheets.

  15. Resolve any unsafe practices or conditions and report the issue to the HSC Board of Directors.

ARCHERY RANGE RULES

  1. Ranges are for Highland Sportsman Club members and their guests only. Each member is limited to 5 guests and must always accompany them. Children under 16 should be strictly supervised.
  2. Archery ranges are designated for the shooting of bows and arrows only. The use of firearms in these areas is strictly forbidden.
  3. Broadhead use is prohibited except for designated targets behind the clubhouse.
  4. Rangefinders are not permitted during active competition except at the range master’s discretion.
  5. No horseplay allowed.
  6. No alcoholic beverages are permitted.
  7. Keep the range clean by disposing of all trash.
  8. The range is closed during regularly scheduled monthly meetings, work parties,and HSC Board-approved events.
  9. Resolve any unsafe practices or conditions and report the issue to the HSC Board of Directors.
